But I’m not really sure….. I think he preferred the dark. But really, I hate the way all these IBM commercials perpetuate the negative stereotypes of computer professionals. We are people too. Some of us are even at least a little cool….

This has got to be one of the greatest commercials of all time. It’s theme is based on the year it ran during the super bowl, or at least on a book named after that year. That year was 1984.

To be honest, I think the graphics for this were WAY ahead of their
time. I always thought this commercial was awesome. They recently redid this commercial to include things like the runner carrying and iPod. While I highly recommend the iPod, I don’t like the new commercial as much as I like the original.

Was that supposed to be a spreadsheet?

I guess the Vic 20 was a little before my time. At the time this came out I was using a TRS-80 at school. Later I would have my own C-64.

You have to wonder too, did this gig really pay well, or was William Shatner desperate for some cash? At least he looks human here, unlike in a more recent commercial.
